THE PHIGS

"The Phigs are a funky, fruity, musical delicacy, who never miss a chance to get you up to dance. A group forged on house party dance floors, they have a collective professional music experience of over 15 years. Each of their six members are proud multi-instrumentalists and have come together to burn down the house of Victoria's local music scene."

Originally dubbed the Random Collective, the figs began as an amalgamation of whichever artists attended the house party that night, guided by saxophone player Isaac Kwiatkowski. Once the dance floors simply became too hot to ignore, some organization was called for and an official set of band members were chosen to lead the charge: Isaac, Grady Hewlett, Brayden Wright, Seth Leupold, Tasha Cadence and Guillaume Richards.

The name Phigs came from a democratic election where fresh figs were placed in voting boxes, each dubbed with a possible title - all of which were vetoed in favor of the fruity ballots themselves.

"It's Phigs with a pH because we're anything but basic"

"Our band comes together weekly with the intention of using our time as a classroom, each individual member brings their own decade near experience to help push and bend each other to be stronger musicians. Some originals songs were brought to the table, and others have been written as a collaborative experience, with the odd cover thrown in - however being six highly trained and nitpicky musicians, perfecting our own original material has been much easier than choosing what songs to cover. "

This "All-You-Can-Eat Buffet" of musical flavors includes themes of soul, funk, pop, gypsy-jazz, standards, r&b, afrobeats and mega-hype disco party fusion. With their unforgettable energy, the Phigs can't be missed either busking downtown, playing at a local venue or tearing down the roof at a party near you.

"We look forward to spending the next 6 to 8 months almost solely writing new material, busking and playing parties to stay right, and brainstorming ways of expanding the educational experience that comes from being six equally driven instrumentalists. We have goals of recording a live EP as well as doing tours within the local school system to teach others about the art of improvisation, live performance and just embracing being a total nerd. There is SO much love to go around - and an even balance of work and play, so were thrilled to see where the Phigs will end up."
